Tina Cancio is the founder of Balance Salon, which she launched in 2008 with her husband and business partner, Carlos Cancio. Proudly local and American-owned, the salon has become a trusted community staple.
After earning dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Macro Sociology and Psychology from Roosevelt University (1992), Tina spent more than 25 years in executive roles within the food and beverage industry. Following a rare chronic blood cancer diagnosis, she retired from corporate life and now manages the salon’s financial and operational strategy virtually.
Tina also serves as an LGL Leukemia Community Leader with the Rare Genomics Institute and advocates for cancer patients through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Advocacy Committee and Moffitt Cancer Center.

Carlos Cancio has been a driving force behind Balance Salon for over 32 years and brings 38 years of experience in the haircare industry. He began his career as a barber in his native Cuba before moving to the United States, becoming a U.S. citizen, and continuing to refine his craft with dedication and determination.
In 1994, Carlos started as an apprentice at the very salon he and his wife, Tina, now own , assisting with shampoos and cleaning while not yet speaking English. By 1996, he was learning English and working as a Junior Stylist. He advanced to Main Stylist in 1997 and earned his Master Stylist certification in 2002.
Today, as co-owner and salon manager, Carlos oversees daily operations, guest experience, and team leadership. While he no longer accepts guests, he leads and mentors the salon’s talented Hair Artists. He and Tina live in the Carrollwood area of Tampa Bay, and have two adult children.
